A conflict can occur when the territory of one player meets the territory of another player. By attempting to move into an opponent's territory at such a border, the tokens stacked on each side will be used as follows to determine who ends up with the territories and tokens that are involved.

Token Type

When created, every token is given one of three abilities to resolve conflicts: isolationist, aggressor, or advocate. These abilities are hidden from your opponent on the bottom of the token until there is a conflict.

Isolationist ("Keep Out")

A token that acts as an isolationist intends to avoid the conflict. When it has no choice but to defend itself, its victory is assured—but if joining the other side is the means to end the conflict, it will do that, too.

Λ

Aggressor ("I Me Mine")

A token that acts as an aggressor intends to compete to win the conflict. It will advance into the opponent's territory and take over unless met with a strong defense.

Advocate ("Join Me")

A token that acts as an advocate intends to convince the opponent to end the conflict. It can sway an opponent with a reasonable argument, but only if they are willing to listen to diplomacy.

Basic Resolution

Based on those properties, the outcome of a two token conflict can be depicted as follows:

Λ
2

Λ
2
2

Where "2" is shown, it represents an aggressor's advancement into the other territory, and the color represents the ultimate outcome of that action. For stack ordering, the aggressor is simply placed on top just like when normal movement occurs.

Mass Resolution

When there are a large number of tokens on each territory in conflict, the above rules still apply with the following conditions:

  1. If the number of tokens differs, the smaller size is in effect given "blank" tokens on the bottom of the stack to create even sides.
  2. Tokens are matched one-on-one (similar to a game of war), keeping track of all the outcomes and their respective territories. For matches with blank tokens, the action is the same as if the actual tokens were unopposed (i.e., the aggressor advances into the other territory while the isolationist and advocate remain in their own).
  3. The tokens in both territories are counted and the color with the greatest number takes that territory. In the event of a tie, the initial color of the territory determines the winner.
  4. All the tokens are changed to the color of the territory they now occupy (i.e., winner-takes-all).

Here is a simple example to demonstrate mass resolution:

It may seem a little complicated at first glance, but it will become second nature once you've done it a few times. Really!
